Going Home

  • On the day you leave
The morning of your departure you will asked to put all the clothes you wore during your stay into a tray and they will be measured for background radiation, items that do not pass will not be returned.
  • Hotels, flights etc
Once you are released you are free to fly home, it takes at least 3 hours to get to the Frankfurt airport so plan accordingly.  As was mentioned in the before your go section they are more inexpensive hotels near the big city than in Bad Berka, so you might want to rest in Frankfurt or Weimar if you want to take an extra day or two to recover.

One fellow patient at Bad Berka stayed at the Courtyard Hotel and found it a nice place to stay -- and they offer a 81 Euro special rate for patients of the clinic.  For the special rate go courtyardfrankfurtmesse.com and use promotion code L6C.
The rate includes free wireless and 1 bottle of water per night they also offer a free shuttle from the airport (7 Euro for return) as well as 50% of breakfast.

Make sure you also search on Expedia or Kayak as you should be able to find a hotel room for under US $100 on a weekend night.
  • Medications
Any extra medications that you need can be obtained at the pharmacy in Bad Berka or the pharmacy at the Frankfurt airport.  You might wish to have medications with you for nausea that are purchased at a US pharmacy and covered under your insurance plan.
  • US Customs
You will be handed a letter before you leave the clinic stating you have had a treatment with a radio active agent but that you are safe to fly, keep this with you as you will need it when you try to exit the customs area on your return trip home.  The customs agents as you exit US customs wear belts that measure background radiation and your will register on those sensors and you will be stopped.  Tell the agent you have had recent medical treatment and you can produce a letter to that effect.  The agents will separate you from your baggage just to make sure they know what they are dealing with - do not be alarmed.  Once they are sure it is you and not your bags that are registering the alarm they will let you proceed to your bag to get your letter.  The process will add about 15 minutes to your exit.

Get plenty of rest for the next week or so and remember to keep drinking your fluids.
